Eagle-eyed followers of the band may have noticed a few changes to our line-up in recent months as our resident conductor, Andrea Price, has chosen to step down from her position as Musical Director to focus on her alternative musical endeavours and opportunities.
Andrea took over the baton in 2022 at a transitional time in the band’s history. The legacy of Andrea’s tenureship with the band has included the development of exciting collaborations and partnerships with community and youth organisations, fostering young talent and new players, penning fresh compositions and repertoire for Wingates, and re-building the band to it’s current strength. This work culminated in securing the band’s position in the Championship Section with a top six finish at the North West Area Championships in February 2024.
It is with heartfelt thanks and well wishes from the band that Andrea steps away in her current position as MD.
Andrea stated:
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time conducting Wingates over the past two years and am proud to have seen the band through their 150th anniversary, culminating in a fabulous concert with Peter Moore. After a strong North-West Area result and some exciting new player signings, I’m confident that the band will continue to go from strength to strength. I am stepping away from conducting for a while to focus on composition; unfortunately it is not possible to fit everything in at once! I hope to continue my association with the Wingates Band and we are looking at a number of exciting projects over the coming months”
