Wingates Band have just completed a busy period of Remembrance commemorations during the celebration of 100 years since the end of the First World War.
On Saturday 3rd November the band played to a packed audience at Blackrod Community Centre, as part of their series of events commemorating and celebrating the centenary anniversary of the end of the Great War.
The well thought out and at times extremely poignant programme was well received by the audience culminating in a version of the Last Post set to the music Auld Lang Syne, followed by I Vow to Thee My Country and with a rousing Proms finale.
The band were also at Astley Bridge on Sunday 11th November, for the Remembrance Parade, and despite the rain this didn’t dampen the band’s spirit and they were extremely honoured to have led the parade on such an important day for the nation.
Due to the significance of these events, the band provided both engagements to their local communities for a much reduced fee, however both venues held collections which were kindly donated to the band and Wingates Band would like to thank their audiences for that. They now need to start to bolster their funds again for the coming year and some of that will be through Christmas playing throughout the surrounding area, including local supermarkets, during the whole of December. So they hope to see you in and around Westhoughton and
Bolton over the Christmas period.
Their next concert is the Annual Christmas Concert at the The Victoria Hall in Bolton on Saturday 8th December starting at 7.30pm, where they will be performing alongside The Three Town Operatics Society. This is a great opportunity for the band to play to a large audience, which they thrive upon as they love to entertain their supporters. Unfortunately last year the weather seriously affected audience numbers, so they are hoping for more clement weather and a much bigger turnout this year. If you are a member of the Wingates Band
Supporters Club and pay your annual £20.00 subscription, then they would like to take this opportunity to invite you to this concert free of charge as part of your Supporters package. If, however, you are not a member of the Supporters Club (please contact Melanie McFarland on email@example.com if you wish to become a member) then tickets are available either through:
the Ticket Sourcewebsite at https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/date/571709
The Victoria Hall Box Office on 01204 522569 (Tue and Thu 10am to 2pm and Sat 10am to 12 noon)
or you can pay on the door. Tickets £5 Under 12’s free.
Melanie McFarland, the band’s Marketing Manager, said “Although we are a charity ourselves, Wingates Band has given a lot of its time recently to the local community. We would now be grateful if the community would come and support us in return at our annual Christmas concert in Bolton on Saturday December 8th. We have reduced the entrance fee this year to allow as many people as possible to come and see the area’s premier brass band”
