It’s been a fantastic weekend in Birmingham returning to the British Open after an 18 year absence. The band qualified back in May at the Grandshield and yesterday finished 13th out of 18 – against 16 other British Elite bands plus the winners Valaisia.
Championship Section Brass Band, Wingates Band based in Westhoughton, is appealing to its local community, businesses, fellow bandsmen and brass band enthusiasts for financial assistance to maintain the history and traditions of brass band playing for over 140 years in the Bolton area. St Georges Hall, St George’s Place, Liverpool, L1 1JJ @ 7.30pm – 24th June Wingates Band, are playing with international Euphonium star Dave Thornton in an effort to assist with the remarkable services that Clatterbridge continue to provide.
Wingates have had a much to celebrate over the past 12 months – as the picture shows! The celebrations began in February 2016, when the band gained 2nd place at the North West Area Championships and qualified to compete in the National Finals in October.
Wingates Band would like to wish all the best to our Solo Euphonium player, Chris Robertson. Chris joined the band three and a half years ago, when he moved from Scotland to Manchester to study at the RNCM.
