Andrew began playing the cornet at the age of 6 and joined his first band, the Prescot Band, at the age of 7 becoming principal cornet at the age of 14. Since then he has held the principal cornet seat with Flixton Band, Besses O’ Th’ Barn and Leyland DAF before joining Wingates band in 1999 as principal cornet along withhis wife Sue who plays 3rd cornet.Andrew has completed many tours abroad and in 2006 was guest soloist and course tutor for “Jugend Brass Band Forum Ostschweiz” in Switzerland. He has performed as a soloist on many CD’s as well as recordings for BBC, TV and radio.Andrew has also guested with other well known championship bands such as Faireys and Brighouse & Rastrick.He has also guested as principal cornet with both The Trusts Waitakere Brass for the 2010 & 2011 New Zealand Championships and Grimethorpe Colliery Band’s Switzerland tour in 2010.In 2009 Andrew gained his MA with distinction in performance from Salford University and has been a teacher of brass & percussion for 19 years with Salford’s music service.
