November Update

Wingates Brass Band   November 21, 2018   Comments Off on November Update

As we approach the end of 2018, all of us here at Wingates Band hope you have had a good
year and that you are looking forward to Christmas and the New Year.
As you are aware, earlier in the year the members of Wingates Band went through a tough time
dealing with a lot of illness and even our Chairman, Andy Mooney, suffering a heart attack. I am
extremely pleased to report that everyone is now fit and well, and that thankfully Andy has
managed to pick up his beloved Bb Bass and has recently returned to playing fully with the

On Saturday 3rd November we played to a packed audience at Blackrod Community Centre,
commemorating and celebrating the centenary anniversary of the end of World War One. The
well thought out and at times extremely poignant programme was well received by the audience culminating in a version of the Last Post set to the music Auld Lang Syne, followed by I Vow to Thee My Country and with a rousing Proms finale.

The band were at Astley Bridge on Sunday 11th November, for the Remembrance Parade, and
despite the rain this didn’t dampen the band’s spirit and we were extremely honoured to have led the parade on such an important day for the nation.

Due to the significance of these events, Wingates Band provided both engagements to their
local communities for a much reduced fee, however both venues held collections which were
kindly donated to the band and we thank our audiences for that. We now need to start to bolster our funds again for the coming year and some of that will be through our Christmas playing throughout the surrounding area, including local supermarkets, during the whole of December.

So we hope to see you in and around Westhoughton and Bolton over the Christmas period.
Our next concert is our Annual Christmas Concert at the The Victoria Hall in Bolton on Saturday
8th December starting at 7.30pm, where we will be performing alongside The Three Town
Operatics Society. This is a great opportunity for the band to play to a large audience, which we
thrive upon as we love to entertain our supporters. Unfortunately last year the weather seriously affected our audience numbers, so we are hoping for more clement weather and a much bigger turnout this year. If you are a member of our Supporters Club and pay your annual subscription, then I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to this concert free of charge as part of your Supporters package. If, however, you are not a member of the Supporters Club then tickets are available either through our website:

Ticket Source website at ,

The Victoria Hall Box Office on 01204 522569 (Tue and Thu 10am to 2pm and Sat 10am to 12 noon),

or you can pay on the door. Tickets £5 Under 12’s free.

We need your support to keep the name of Wingates Band alive, and we hope that you will try
and encourage as many of your friends and family as possible to come with you, and enjoy
what promises to be a great evening.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the 8th December and thank you all
for your continued support.
