Following a creditable 13th place finish at the British Open Brass Band Championships held in the Birmingham Symphony Hall early in September, Wingates Band are now taking a break from competitions and spending the next few months concentrating on a busy concert season in a bid to raise much needed funds.
Over the weekend the band performed to a full house at Christ Church, Padgate, in Warrington. This is only the 3rd visit to Warrington by the band in over 50 years. The crowd played its part in making the evening a memorable one, waving flags and singing along to the Last Night of the Proms inspired programme. The concert was such a success the band have been invited to return to Warrington again next year.
A Last Night of the Proms theme is always a popular one with our audiences and will be the Finale at the band’s next concert ‘Best of British’ at St. Bartholomew’s Church, Westhoughton, BL5 2BG, this Saturday, 21st October. The concert will also feature pieces from the movie ‘Brassed Off’ as well as other popular classics. Tickets can be reserved by contacting Band Manager, Sue MacDonald on email@example.com or in the evenings on 07966 364530 / 01925 837737 or alternatively pay on the door, £8 each, 2 for £15 and under 16s free (when accompanied by an adult).
As well as our busy concert schedule, the members of the band are still fighting hard to save this historic band by focusing their efforts on increasing membership to their new Supporters Club, which at only £20 per year includes a free ticket to our annual christmas concert (this year to be held at the The Victoria Hall, Bolton on the 9th December with the Warrington Male Voice Choir).
The band would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been in touch so far to offer help and support and to join the Supporters Club or take up a Business Package. This follows the shock announcement last month that we are in desperate need of financial support to ensure our long term future.
We are looking forward to performing in our local town this Saturday in such a wonderful venue as St.Bartholomew’s Church, and we hope people will come along for what is promised to be a really enjoyable evening’s entertainment”
Between now and Christmas the band has a series of performances in Westhoughton and Bolton, plus plenty of carolling in and around the community, and we are looking forward to bringing the festive cheer to as many members of the public as possible.
