Another fabulous day for Wingates as we win at Brighouse March and Hymn contest. We went into the contest with some trepidation as we had won it last year and were the band to beat.
Last year the heavens opened on us as we performed, but this did not deter our resolve and prevent us from scooping the first prize. However this year the weather was more kind as we were bathed in glorious sunshine. As well as winning best hymn and best march, we also picked up prizes for best trombones, best euphonium, Chris Robertson and soloist (horn), Melanie McFarland. As conductor of the winning band, Paul Andrews took home the Winning MD award too.
The victory was clear as we picked up 99 & 98 points = 197, with our closest rivals, 2nd – Hammonds Saltaire (97/95) and 3rd Hepworth (96/96) tying with a score of 192. Their positions were ultimately decided by the highest score on the contest march. For full results of all competing bands see the list below.
